August Macke
1887–1914 · German
August Macke developed a luminous modernism shaped by French painting, Der Blaue Reiter and a 1914 trip to Tunisia with Paul Klee and Louis Moilliet. Shop windows, parks and strolling figures became vehicles for translucent color and rhythmic structure.
