Artist
Balthus
1908–2001 · French-Polish
Balthus pursued an idiosyncratic figurative painting practice during decades dominated by abstraction. Interiors, landscapes and adolescent figures are rendered with deliberate slowness, archaic perspective and references to Piero della Francesca, Courbet and modern photography.
