Artist
El Anatsui
b. 1944 · Ghanaian
El Anatsui developed an internationally influential sculptural practice from wood, clay and, since the late 1990s, vast flexible sheets assembled from discarded aluminum bottle caps and copper wire. Working for decades in Nigeria, he transformed materials tied to trade, alcohol and colonial history into shimmering surfaces that can be reconfigured for each installation.
