Farid Belkahia

1934–2014 · Moroccan

Farid Belkahia led the Casablanca School in the 1960s and rejected imported easel-painting conventions in favor of copper, animal skin, natural dyes and forms drawn from Amazigh and Islamic visual cultures. His practice helped redefine Moroccan modernism around material and local knowledge.
