Grace Cossington Smith developed a vibrant modernist painting language built from small, separate strokes of color. She painted Sydney interiors, suburban scenes, landscapes and major civic subjects, including The Sock Knitter and The Bridge in-Curve, one of the most important images of the Sydney Harbour Bridge under construction.
