Joel Shapiro is an American artist associated with Postminimalism. Across Sculpture; drawing, the work investigates block-like human forms balanced in dynamic poses that make gesture emerge from seemingly simple geometric construction. Meaning develops through the relationship between process, display and lived cultural experience rather than through a single signature motif.
