Kadhim Hayder

1932–1985 · Iraqi

Kadhim Hayder developed a powerful figurative modernism shaped by Iraqi history, theater and Shi’a ritual. His 1965 Martyr’s Epic series responded to the death of political activists and drew on the symbolism of Karbala, converting grief and sacrifice into stark repeated forms.
