M.F. Husain

1915–2011 · Indian

Maqbool Fida Husain was a founding member of the Progressive Artists’ Group and became one of post-independence India’s most visible painters. He developed a bold, linear figurative language around horses, women, myth, cinema and national identity, while also making films and large public projects. His career was marked by both enormous popularity and political controversy over depictions of Hindu deities.
