Artist
María Izquierdo
1902–1955 · Mexican
María Izquierdo became one of the first Mexican women artists to receive major international recognition. Her paintings of altars, circuses, rural landscapes, still lifes and women developed outside the dominant muralist model and often carry a compressed, theatrical symbolism.
