Maya Lin is an American architect, sculptor, and environmentalist who rocketed to global prominence at age twenty-one by designing the poignant, black granite Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Her undulating outdoor earthworks, recycled silver water tables, and topographic sculptures explore landscape memory, water systems, and species extinction.
