Artist
Rufino Tamayo
1899–1991 · Mexican
Rufino Tamayo developed a modern Mexican painting language distinct from the overt political programs of the muralists. Drawing on pre-Columbian art, European modernism and a highly personal use of color, he focused on figures, animals, cosmology and existential themes.
