Simone Leigh creates monumental ceramic and bronze sculptures that center Black female subjectivity through references to vernacular architecture, African diasporic material culture, modernism and histories of labor. Her figures often combine human heads and torsos with vessel or architectural forms, shifting between portrait and monument.
