Skunder Boghossian
1937–2003 · Ethiopian-American
Alexander 'Skunder' Boghossian developed a richly layered painting language informed by Ethiopian church imagery, African visual traditions, jazz, Surrealism and abstraction. After study in Europe he returned to Ethiopia, then moved to the United States in 1970, where he taught for decades and influenced younger Black artists.
