Artist
Theo van Doesburg
1883–1931 · Dutch
Theo van Doesburg founded the journal De Stijl in 1917 and became the movement’s great organizer, polemicist and network-builder. He worked across painting, typography, architecture and interiors, eventually introducing diagonal compositions under the name Elementarism, a move that contributed to his split with Piet Mondrian.
