Walter Swennen is a prominent Belgian painter who turned from experimental poetry and psychoanalysis to visual art in the late 1970s. Working across found supports—including wood panels, metal signs, and raw canvases—Swennen combines fragmented phrases, comic emblems, and painterly erasures to explore the fallibility of language and painterly semiotics.
