Zao Wou-Ki
1920–2013 · Chinese-born French
Zao Wou-Ki trained in China and moved to Paris in 1948, where he developed a language joining European postwar abstraction with Chinese traditions of ink, landscape and calligraphy. From the late 1950s his paintings became increasingly atmospheric and spatial.
