Thonet has manufactured furniture for two centuries and still produces at Frankenberg in Germany, where its bentwood and tubular steel designs are made using a combination of traditional craft and current production technology. The company's history is inseparable from the industrialisation of furniture — the bentwood chair and the Bauhaus-era steel classics — and it maintains its own museum and continuing programme with contemporary designers.
