Collecting Photography Editions
How to start a photography collection without losing your bearings.
A photograph is not one object — it is a set of decisions the artist made about how to release the image.
Edition size, print process (silver gelatin, C-print, pigment), and paper all shape what you are actually acquiring. A Wolfgang Tillmans inkjet is a different object from a Hiroshi Sugimoto silver gelatin, even before you look at the image.
