Understanding Limited Edition Prints

A limited edition print is a contract. The number in the corner — 12/50, 3/25 — tells you two things: which impression you have, and how many exist.

Artist's proofs (AP) are a small run outside the numbered edition, historically for the artist's use. They are not more or less valuable in themselves, but they are rarer.

Publisher's marks are the imprint of the atelier that produced the work. A print from Gemini G.E.L., ULAE, or Two Palms carries the technical standard of that shop.
