Claude Monet was a central founder of Impressionism, building a career around direct observation of light, atmosphere and changing weather. From the 1890s onward he increasingly worked in series—haystacks, poplars, Rouen Cathedral, the Thames and finally the water-lily pond at Giverny—turning repetition into a way of studying perception over time.
