Douglas Huebler abandoned object-making in the late 1960s for works built from photographs, maps, typed statements and temporary actions. Duration, Location and Variable Pieces treated documentation not as evidence of a hidden artwork but as the artwork’s primary form. His famous 1969 statement that the world was full of objects and he did not wish to add any more became emblematic of Conceptual art’s dematerialization.
