Giulio Paolini

Giulio Paolini developed a highly self-reflexive practice around the conditions of representation: the blank canvas, the studio, the museum, the copy and the viewer. His 1960 work Disegno geometrico reduced painting to the preparation of a support, and later installations frequently quote classical sculpture and art history.
