Artist
Michelangelo Pistoletto
b. 1933 · Italian
Michelangelo Pistoletto became a defining Arte Povera artist through his Quadri specchianti, or Mirror Paintings, begun in 1962. Silkscreened or painted figures placed on polished stainless steel bring the viewer and surrounding room into the work in real time. He later developed sculptural, theatrical and social projects, including Cittadellarte, that expanded the idea of art into collective civic practice.
