Giuseppe Penone
b. 1947 · Italian
Giuseppe Penone emerged within Arte Povera in the late 1960s with actions and sculptures that examine the contact between human bodies and natural growth. Trees, bark, skin, breath, fingerprints and stone recur across a practice in which carving often reveals a younger tree hidden inside industrial lumber.
