Ian Hamilton Finlay (1925–2006) was an extraordinary Scottish poet, philosopher, and conceptual sculptor who revolutionized concrete poetry and neo-classical landscape architecture. His magnum opus, 'Little Sparta'—a five-acre neoclassical garden in the Pentland Hills southwest of Edinburgh—integrates engraved sundials, stone aphorisms, battle inscriptions, and sculpted monuments that interrogate the French Revolution, classical mythology, warfare, and nature's enduring power.
