Isamu Noguchi

1904–1988 · Japanese-American

Isamu Noguchi moved freely between sculpture, furniture, gardens, playgrounds and stage design. Apprenticeship with Brancusi sharpened his sense of direct form, while sustained engagement with Japan and the United States made cultural hybridity central to his practice.
