Jan Vercruysse (1948–2018) was an influential Belgian conceptual artist who represented Belgium at the 1993 Venice Biennale. Renowned for enigmatic series such as 'Tombeaux' and 'Atopies', Vercruysse crafted pristine, non-functional architectural plinths, empty picture frames, and Murano glass instruments that interrogate absence and the role of art in society.
