Jananne Al-Ani creates poetic aerial photography and video works that survey the contested desert topographies of the Middle East. Reversing orientalist tropes of the desert as an empty, timeless expanse, her high-altitude lenses reveal micro-traces of ancient civilizations, military fortifications, and resource extraction.
