Artist
Jean Dubuffet
1901–1985 · French
Jean Dubuffet rejected academic ideas of refinement and championed what he called Art Brut—work made outside official culture. His own paintings use thick matter, graffiti-like marks, crude figures and later the interlocking red, blue, black and white forms of the Hourloupe cycle.
