Jim Dine emerged in the early 1960s through Happenings and assemblages before developing a highly personal vocabulary of recurring motifs—hearts, bathrobes, tools, skulls and Pinocchio. Unlike the cool distance associated with much Pop Art, Dine repeatedly invests familiar objects with autobiographical and emotional meaning.
