Artist
Joan Semmel
b. 1932 · American
Joan Semmel has created a sustained painting practice around the body, sexuality, aging and self-representation. Beginning with explicitly erotic works in the 1970s, she later turned the camera toward her own body and built a radical archive of aging from the first-person viewpoint.
