Josef Albers

1888–1976 · German-born American

Josef Albers studied and taught at the Bauhaus before emigrating to the United States in 1933, where he taught at Black Mountain College and later chaired Yale’s Department of Design. His long Homage to the Square series and book Interaction of Color made perception itself the subject of painting and pedagogy.
