Anni Albers

1899–1994 · German-born American

Anni Albers studied weaving at the Bauhaus, where she turned constraints placed on women students into a radical investigation of structure, material and pattern. After emigrating to the United States she taught at Black Mountain College, designed textiles, wrote influential essays and later shifted much of her practice toward printmaking.
