Käthe Kollwitz

1867–1945 · German

Käthe Kollwitz devoted drawing, etching, lithography, woodcut and sculpture to grief, poverty, labor and political violence. Two great print cycles, A Weavers’ Revolt and Peasants’ War, established her reputation; the deaths and upheavals of World War I deepened her focus on mourning and antiwar imagery.
