Man Ray

1890–1976 · American

Man Ray moved from New York Dada to Paris in 1921 and became one of the most inventive image-makers associated with Surrealism. Portrait photography supported his practice, but rayographs, solarization, films and transformed everyday objects continually challenged the idea of the photograph as straightforward record.
