Max Ernst

1891–1976 · German-born French-American

  • University of Bonn

Max Ernst moved from Cologne Dada into Surrealism and became one of the movement’s great technical inventors. Collage, frottage, grattage and decalcomania allowed him to generate images through accident and transformation rather than straightforward depiction.
