Nobuyuki Tanaka creates monumental biomorphic sculptures using traditional Japanese urushi lacquer applied over dry lacquer armatures of hemp cloth. Coated in dozens of hand-burnished layers of pitch-black and deep-red lacquer, his sensual curved forms evoke bodily organs, seed pods, and primeval organic life.
