Richard Hamilton

1922–2011 · British

Richard Hamilton became one of British Pop’s foundational figures through exhibitions, writing and works that treated mass media, consumer goods and modern interiors as serious artistic material. His 1956 collage Just what is it that makes today’s homes so different, so appealing? became an emblem of postwar consumer culture, while later projects moved fluidly between painting, print, photography and political imagery.
