Wifredo Lam

Wifredo Lam returned to Cuba in 1941 after years in Spain and Paris, bringing Cubist and Surrealist strategies into sustained dialogue with Afro-Cuban religion, colonial history and Caribbean ecology. His hybrid figures resist easy separation between body, spirit, animal and plant.
