Wook-kyung Choi (1940–1985) was an extraordinary Korean painter, poet, and educator who pursued expressive, bold gestural abstraction during a period dominated by monochromatic Dansaekhwa. Absorbing American Abstract Expressionism while studying in the US, Choi forged an explosive visual language of vibrant primary colors and dynamic brushwork exploring female subjectivity.
