Artist
Alighiero Boetti
1940–1994 · Italian
Alighiero Boetti emerged within Arte Povera but soon developed an idiosyncratic conceptual practice centered on doubling, classification, maps, language, postal systems and collaboration. After traveling to Afghanistan, he commissioned embroidered works from Afghan craftswomen, including the celebrated Mappe and text-based tapestries.
