Artist
Ernest Mancoba
1904–2002 · South African-French
Ernest Mancoba left South Africa for Paris in 1938 and later became associated with artists around CoBrA, though his role was often marginalized in histories of the movement. His mature paintings use spare, mask-like central figures and abstract signs shaped by African carving, European modernism and spiritual thought.
