Huguette Caland

1931–2019 · Lebanese

Huguette Caland developed a playful, sensual practice around bodies, line and abstraction. After moving from Beirut to Paris in 1970 and later to California, she made the Bribes de corps series, in which cropped fleshy forms press against the edge of the canvas, alongside intricate line drawings and caftans.
