Jiro Yoshihara
1905–1972 · Japanese
Jiro Yoshihara founded the Gutai Art Association in 1954 and urged its members to 'do what has never been done before.' His own work moved from prewar abstraction toward increasingly concentrated circle paintings, while his leadership created the intellectual framework for Gutai’s experiments with action, material and environment.
