Dame Magdalene Odundo is a British-Kenyan ceramic artist celebrated for sinuous, anthropomorphic vessels hand-coiled without a potter's wheel. Drawing from ancient Greek pottery, sub-Saharan African ceramics, and modernist sculpture (Brâncuși, Arp), Odundo burnishes and gas-fires her terracotta vessels to produce iridescent black and orange surfaces.
