Maria Helena Vieira da Silva
1908–1992 · Portuguese-born French
Maria Helena Vieira da Silva developed dense, labyrinthine paintings in which tiled grids, architectural fragments and shifting viewpoints make space feel unstable. After studying in Lisbon and Paris, she became a major figure of the postwar School of Paris and later a French citizen.
