Marisol

1930–2016 · Venezuelan-American, born France

Marisol Escobar, known simply as Marisol, developed sculptural ensembles in the 1960s that combined carved wood, found objects, drawing, plaster and photographic elements. Her groups parody family portraiture, celebrity, gender roles and social performance while retaining a handmade, deliberately awkward physicality.
