Sigmar Polke co-founded the ironic label Capitalist Realism in 1963 with Gerhard Richter and Konrad Lueg. Across painting, photography, film and print he used raster dots, cheap printed fabrics, chemical processes and incompatible styles to destabilize images drawn from advertising, politics and art history.
