Vaughn Spann creates expansive, heavily textured paintings that oscillate between monumental abstraction and poignant figuration. Known for his tactile 'X' paintings (crafted from terrycloth towels and modeling paste) and symbolic portraits of two-headed Dalmatian dogs, Spann explores racial surveillance, spatial geometry, and African American cultural identity.
