Titus Kaphar is an American painter, sculptor, and MacArthur Fellow whose practice reconstructs Western art history by cutting, crumpling, tarring, and physically peeling away painted canvases to reveal the erased historical presence of Black and Indigenous figures. Founder of the NXTHVN arts incubator in New Haven, Kaphar bridges historical reckoning with community empowerment.
